Refreshing affiliate assets when product positioning changes
Map old product claims to new facts, replace affiliate creative and help publishers correct live placements after a positioning change.
When product positioning changes, identify every asset carrying the old promise and replace it with one you can support.
Translate the change into usable facts
Set old and new positioning side by side. Specify what changed—product, variant, intended customer, benefit, price or offer—and what remains the same. Keep evidence and material limits beside each new claim. Give publishers an effective date and a route for factual questions.
The ACCC says it can require businesses to back up claims about their products or services, and may investigate and take compliance or enforcement action if a business misleads. The new message should agree with the current product page and purchase conditions. A revised slogan must not imply that an older variant gained a feature or that a limited offer applies to everyone.
Find where the old message appears
Inventory the creative bank, text links, product-feed fields, landing pages, offer briefs and publisher copy known to be live or scheduled. Record each item’s owner, old claim, replacement or withdrawal decision, destination and affected partners. Prioritise material mismatches customers may rely on, such as an incorrect benefit, variant, price or availability claim.
Awin’s My Creative tool supports banners and images, email templates, forms, HTML 5 banners, search widgets, text links and other creative types. Entries can be hidden or tagged, carry a description and ID, and be visible only to selected partners.
A feed update does not rewrite editorial copy.
Replace and check the affected assets
- Approve the new fact sheet and customer-facing page, including qualifiers.
- Create or edit affected assets with clear names and the correct destination. Keep an old-to-new asset record.
- Hide outdated assets where the platform supports it, and notify partners using them. Awin’s help centre says hiding a creative will not remove it from partners’ websites; to stop its use, tell partners through the Communication Centre.
- Tell affected publishers the old claim, verified replacement, products and variants affected, effective date and correction contact.
- Inspect selected live placements and follow their links to the final page. Record any material old claims still visible for follow-up.
For an independent review, ask the publisher to correct any inaccurate fact and provide supporting evidence. If a previously supported benefit no longer holds, state that limitation plainly.
Then check the affected live placements to confirm the updated message is in place.
Judge accuracy before interpreting results
Awin Classic’s Creative Performance report can show impressions and clicks for its creative records. Those figures cannot verify the accuracy of a publisher’s prose or establish that the positioning change caused a sales movement. Review the customer-facing message first, then interpret commercial results for the affected placements and period.
