Reviewing an affiliate application before approval
Review an affiliate applicant’s property, audience, promotional method and proposed terms before deciding.
Approve an affiliate application when you understand where the applicant plans to promote, whom the placement reaches, which methods it will use and which terms it will accept. A network profile starts that review; it does not make the decision for you.
Check the property and method
Open the declared website or social account. For a newsletter or private community, request a relevant sample or access. Compare the material and proposed placement with the customers and products your programme serves. A publisher’s business address does not establish where its readers are.
Identify the intended promotional method. Content, email, paid search and coupon promotion may have different permissions under your terms. If a profile lists several methods, ask which the applicant proposes for your brand.
Awin advises advertisers to consider promotional methods and review a media pack. impact.com can show media properties and audience insights. The detail available depends on what the applicant supplies and the programme setup.
Resolve gaps before accepting
Ask a promising applicant for the specific property and placement, a comparable example, evidence of audience location, or an explanation of planned paid traffic. Keep the request proportionate. A sparse profile is a reason to ask, not evidence of misconduct; a network account alone is not a reason to approve.
Check / Record
- Placement
- Property and proposed page, format or channel
- Fit
- Reader need, relevant products and serviceable locations
- Method
- Planned promotion and any permission needed
- Terms
- Commission arrangement, exceptions and counterproposals
Approve when the evidence and terms fit. Hold the decision and ask when a material point is unclear. Decline when the audience cannot obtain the product or the method conflicts with your rules. Give a useful explanation where practical; do not assume a reason selected in a platform’s decline control is shared with the applicant.
Read the terms at acceptance
Confirm the commission, eligible action, start date, permitted methods and any placement fee before accepting. impact.com warns that accepting a partner proposal binds the brand and that a proposed placement fee can affect the budget. Awin’s invitation flow lets you set a commission rate. Check the actual terms and controls in your account.
If you use automatic processing, set criteria that reflect your programme and review their results; automation does not guarantee that each placement suits your product. After admission, inspect the first placement and provide a contact for factual corrections.
Approval permits work under the agreed terms. It does not certify future content, traffic quality or sales.
