Choosing affiliate software or a network
Compare affiliate software and networks by publisher access, commission rules, operating work and export options before choosing a platform.
Choose the operating model before comparing features. Affiliate software suits a business that knows which publishers it wants and can recruit and support them. A network helps discover prospective publishers and manage relationships through shared tools. Neither route guarantees active partners.
Define the work your team must do
Map the journey from publisher application to approved commission. Decide who checks applicants, answers partner questions, reviews refunds and reconciles orders. List the integration, commission rules, publisher experience and exports you need at launch. Ask each supplier to demonstrate your own order scenarios on the proposed plan.
Compare documented options
Awin
Awin advertiser search supports partner name, site and promotional type, plus sector filters. Results are prospects, not proof that a publisher will accept or promote your programme.
On Awin Classic, commission groups can use product and customer conditions. Every programme has a mandatory Default Commission Group.
Access permits up to three groups including the default; Accelerate and Advanced permit more. Advertiser API access also has plan and account qualifications. Confirm which interface and plan the proposal covers.
impact.com
impact.com offers a Partner Marketplace and direct sign-up links. Marketplace recruitment depends on partners having marketplace access; an existing impact.com partner invited directly can still work with other brands.
Customer-status mapping can support reporting and payout modifications for categories such as new or existing customers. New and Existing mappings should work by default when submitting conversions or payout modifications, even if the setting is off. Confirm the proposed account’s reporting fields and action-feed access with a sample export.
Tapfiliate
Tapfiliate supports advertiser-led recruitment, including customer referral workflows. Its Affiliate Marketplace is described as beta; advertisers remain responsible for programme decisions, commission validation and payout terms.
The Marketplace lets affiliates browse and apply to programmes. Applications may be auto-approved or reviewed depending on programme settings.
Check how partner discovery works
Awin search also accepts a Publisher ID or website URL, and handles partial names, typos and synonyms. Status markers distinguish new partners open to invitations, active partnerships, pending applications, ended partnerships and declined applications.
Awin’s APIs are for advertisers with developer resources who want to automate tasks otherwise handled manually, including retrieving transaction and programme-performance data. Advertiser APIs are included by default with Accelerate and Advanced; an Access account may use them if a user is listed on more than one Awin programme. Treat API access as an eligibility question, not an assumed feature of every account.
Clarify partner access and data visibility
On impact.com, the sign-up route changes the relationship model. An account-level link lets a partner apply to any programme in the brand’s account; a programme-specific page covers one programme. Either application is reviewed by the brand. A proposal link can invite a partner without an application approval step.
impact.com’s Action Feed can report new actions and updates to existing actions. Advertisers can set delivery frequency from hourly to monthly, choose XML, tab-separated or pipe-separated data, and receive it by email or through impact.com FTP or their own FTP server. Confirm the feed’s delivery options fit how the team brings action data into its records.
Customer Status Mapping has an implementation dependency as well as a reporting use: impact.com does not identify a shopper’s status by itself. The business must supply that status with conversion data. The provider warns that enabling the setting changes tracking code and can disrupt a programme.
Match the programme model to its purpose
Tapfiliate’s referral option can suit a different objective from a programme built around professional affiliate marketers. Its referral guidance describes referrals as a way to use existing customers’ trusted recommendations to acquire loyal customers. Affiliate marketing is framed around reaching new audiences and sales volume. Include that distinction when deciding whether customer referrals belong in the platform brief.
The Tapfiliate Marketplace lets affiliates browse and apply to programmes; applications are auto-approved or reviewed according to programme settings. This gives the advertiser a choice about how much approval control to retain, rather than making marketplace participation itself a promise of automatic acceptance. Check that this approval model matches the team’s intended oversight.
Compare the full commitment
Get written terms for setup, recurring and transaction charges, services, contract length and exit. Add your own integration, recruitment and support time. For each candidate, record the proposed plan, a demonstrated result, the relevant contract term and any open question.
Use the same proposed cases for every demo: an eligible sale, an excluded product, customer-status differences, a refund, a partner-specific rate and an export joined to a store order.
When checking impact.com exports, ask for an Action Feed sample as well as a standard report. Confirm the chosen format and delivery method with the people who will use the data; those settings determine how the file reaches the business and how it can be read.
